K 2016 – the world's number one trade fair for plastics and rubber – took place in Düsseldorf from 19 to 26 October. Rafael Cichy and Luca Paiola from our architecture department went along for us. A report:
When we entered the trade fair venue on the Sunday, we were reminded of a huge production hall set up for one week. Since trade fair business usually goes on during the week, it was not very full and so there was plenty of space and time for us to find out about everything in detail. The main focus areas this year were:
The most impressive thing we saw were the big production machines able to turn out plastic elements of all sizes – from tiny to metre-sized.
One thing we picked up for UNICBLUE was that many companies presented their manufacturing process by means of a display on their exhibition stand, with touchpoints either at the corners or at the centre of the stand. This meant that the classic information desk was pushed further inside the stand. The focus was more on information rather than interaction, but it was still an interesting aspect as far as we are concerned.
